Our first full day in Taipei. Since we did not sleep at all during the night, we decided to stick close to our hotel. We asked how close we were to the jade/flower markets, and the told us it was for sure in walking distance. Now we have decided that the Taiwanese people are very active, and it is relative on what is close. Just around the corner meant, turn the corner and walk a few miles.
But it was a nice walk. We went to the park that was near the markets. That was really fun. Being a Saturday here in Taiwan, many people were there. It was the Flower Show in the park, so it was fun to see all the displays. Many people were there doing Tai Chi, others were singing. Normally we are the ones people watching, but we noticed that we were definitely being watched. We decided to walk and see where the AIT building was so we we know right where to go on Tuesday. (Teresa, it is really close the the Howard Plaza). After that, Troy finally got brave and hailed his first Taxi. That was fun for me to watch.
We had an awesome driver that was trying to learn English. His was actually pretty good. He said he loved the Utah Jazz! We went to Taipei 101. This was fun. We went up to the observatory. It was so windy. There are metal railings all around the building, and the wind would make them "sing". I did not realize what a big city this was until we were up there.
After that we really were tired. It was only 4:00 in Taiwan, but 1:00 am to us. We headed back to our hotel. We came back to just relax, the go out a little later for some dinner. But big mistake, we relaxed in bed. I woke up and it is midnight here, 10:00 am for Utah. Something funny, we have been popping into 7-11's to see if they have any Dr. Pepper. No one does here. I told Troy, I will find some. When we got back, I searched the Internet; Troy laughed at me, and said that it wouldn't say. I told him that someone would have blogged about it. Sure enough, back at Taipei 101, whole store full of western treats. I told him they may have pop tarts, he might be tempted to go back later!
Today we are going to try to see some of the memorials.

Great pictures! Oooh I'm so excited to read about what you'll see next. :)
It feels a little strange being stared at. I remember feeling that way. I hope your sleeping gets a little better. Mike and I would wake up at 2am every morning straving. We stocked up on cup O'noodles from 7-11 for our middle of the night meal. It's so exciting that you're actually there! We'll keep you in our prayers.
I am so excited for you guys. You finally made it! That building looks so awesome you will have to spit off the top for me Troy(Ally too if your feeling it). I'll tell Keri to have your fridge stocked with cold DP ready for the second your in the door with your cool new little boy. See ya soon, Derek
I love reading your stories. Glad you arrived alive and that you have been able to find access to your Dr. Pepper. We are picking up the kids in an hour to take them to church. They are doing so good. The little girlie down there(Keri I think?) tending them said she hasn't even had to spank them once. What good kids!
Be safe and hurry home!
Love, Jen
